Calgora

Terms of Use

Effective 23 September 2026 · Last updated 23 September 2026

Terms of Use and End User Licence Agreement for the Calgora app for iOS (bundle com.appe-latte.calgora). Provider: Appè Latte Limited (“we”, “us”), operating as Appè Latte.

By downloading or using Calgora you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. This agreement is between you and us — it is not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Calgora or for its contents (see §13).

1. What Calgora is — and is not

Calgora brings Calgary city information into one app: transit, waste and recycling, road incidents, parking, 311 reporting, events, city alerts, community safety and Ask Gary.

Calgora is an independent app. It is not made by, endorsed by, affiliated with or operated by The City of Calgary, Calgary Transit, the Calgary Police Service, the Government of Alberta or any other public body. We are not any of those organisations and we cannot act for them. Nothing in Calgora is an official municipal record, decision, approval or notice.

Calgora is not an emergency service. It does not contact emergency services for you and it is not a substitute for 911. In an emergency, call 911.

2. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use Calgora on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, including through Family Sharing where applicable. This licence is for your own use. You may not:

  • copy, modify, translate or create works based on Calgora, except as the law expressly allows;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except as the law expressly allows;
  • rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense or redistribute it;
  • remove or alter any notice of ownership in it;
  • use it to break the law, to harass or endanger anyone, or to gain unauthorised access to any system;
  • use automated means to access our servers, or make requests at a volume or rate that interferes with the service for other people.

Calgora, its name, its design, its code and Gary are ours (or our licensors’). The City data Calgora displays belongs to the bodies that publish it and is used under their own licences (§5). We keep all rights we do not expressly grant you.

3. Accounts

You may use most of Calgora without an account. An account is an email address and a password; your name and phone number are optional. Ask Gary needs an account — it will not answer while you are signed out, because the free allowance is counted per person.

If you create an account, you agree to give accurate information, to keep your password to yourself, and to tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

You can delete your account at any time from My → Account → Delete Account. We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms, to abuse the service, or in a way that risks harm to other people.

You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live. Calgora is not directed at children under 13.

4. My Calgora (subscription)

What is free. Transit, waste and recycling, road incidents, parking, 311 reporting, city alerts, the events listings and community safety all work without paying and without an account. Emergencies, safety, health, reporting a problem to 311, checking a 311 request you already follow, sorting waste, paying something, reaching a person, questions about Gary itself, and anything Gary has to decline or send elsewhere are never behind a paywall and never count against an Ask Gary allowance. On the free plan some settings are simpler: one saved collection address, alerts for your Home area only, important alerts (and critical ones only between 10 pm and 7 am), a fixed 7:00 pm collection reminder time, and a fixed Home layout.

What My Calgora adds. My Calgora is an auto-renewing annual subscription (com.appe-latte.calgora.plus.yearly) that costs CAD 29.99 per year. It adds:

  • Ask Gary beyond the free allowance of three asks a month;
  • alert areas beyond Home, alerts for your own routes and communities, quiet hours and severity controls, a daily briefing, smart summaries and your notification history;
  • more than one saved collection address, and a collection reminder time you choose;
  • an editable Home layout;
  • saving an event, the reminder an hour before it starts, and filtering events by your saved places;
  • and the parking extras: the full zone detail, favourite zones, Driving Alerts & Regular Journeys, and the “Parked · find my car” row while a timer is running.

Saving a place is free, and there is no limit on saved places on either plan. Saving an event, and the reminder that comes with it, are part of My Calgora — on the free plan you can browse and open every listing, but not save a new one. Anything you saved while subscribed keeps its button, so a lapsed subscription never strands an event you already saved. The price and period shown in the app are taken live from the App Store, and the App Store is the authority on both — if what you see there differs from the figure above, the App Store is right and we will correct this page.

How billing works. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You manage and cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device — not in Calgora, because Apple, not we, holds the subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for.

Fair use. Ask Gary is unlimited for subscribers, and we do not silently cap a normal person. Two limits are real:

  • A short-term brake. At most ten requests a minute on one account, counting questions, photo looks and re-tries, and counting the ones that never touch an allowance. Past that, Gary asks you to wait a moment. This one applies to everybody, subscribers included, so a single account cannot flood the service.
  • A heavy-use notice, for subscribers. Past roughly 60 questions in a day or 300 in a month, the app shows a friendly heads-up above the answer. The answer still arrives; nothing is refused and nothing is charged. (On the free plan the three-a-month allowance arrives first, so this notice is not for you.)

In genuinely extreme cases — automated or abusive use — we may rate-limit or suspend the account.

Refunds. All purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are Apple’s to give under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. We cannot issue them. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something is our fault, tell us and we will help you make the case.

If prices or contents change. We may change what My Calgora includes or what it costs. We will tell you in the app before a change affects you, and a price increase never applies to a period you have already paid for. Apple will ask you to agree to a price increase before it takes effect.

5. City data and other information

Calgora reads public information from The City of Calgary’s open data service (which also carries Calgary Transit’s schedule and real-time feeds), the City’s events calendar, Alberta Emergency Alert and Environment and Climate Change Canada. Apple Maps draws the maps, suggests places while you search, turns a location into a street address and works out travel times. We label where each piece of information came from and when it was last updated, and when a source is stale, failed or unreachable we say so rather than making something up. The Privacy Policy sets out what leaves your phone in those requests.

We do not control those sources and we do not guarantee that they are accurate, complete or current. Schedules change, feeds go down, and data is sometimes days behind — the City’s 311 data, for example, refreshes about once a day and runs roughly two days behind. Some things the feeds simply cannot tell you, and Calgora says so instead of guessing. Check anything that matters against the official source before you act on it, especially anything involving safety, money, a deadline or a legal obligation.

Those sources are used under their own terms and licences, and you must comply with those terms too when you use what Calgora shows you. Calgora’s use of them does not give you any right to them beyond your use of the app.

6. Ask Gary

Ask Gary is an AI assistant. Your question, the app’s snapshot of your saved details and the live City feeds, the last few turns of the conversation, and any photo you attach are sent to our server and on to a third-party AI provider — Anthropic, processing in the United States — which generates the answer. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is sent, what is kept and what is not. Gary is built to answer only from the City data in the app, from official pages it cites, and from what you tell it, and to say “I can’t confirm that yet” rather than guess. It is still an AI and it can be wrong.

You agree that:

  • Gary’s answers are information, not professional advice. Gary is not a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer, a financial adviser or a City official, and nothing it says is a legal, medical, planning or permitting decision.
  • Gary cannot do things for you. It prepares; you confirm; the app acts. It does not submit a 311 request, pay a ticket, book anything, register anything or call anyone on your behalf.
  • You will check anything consequential against the official source or with 311 before acting on it.
  • You will not use Gary to find out private information about another person, to harass anyone, or to try to get it to ignore its instructions.
  • In an emergency you will call 911, not ask Gary.

Do not send Gary anything you would not want processed that way — in particular, do not send passwords, financial account details, or another person’s private information.

We may change, limit or withdraw Ask Gary, including its free allowance, if we have to.

7. Reporting to 311 and to the Calgary Police Service

Calgora can prepare a report and hand it to the City’s own 311 channel or to the Calgary Police Service’s own channel. It does not file it, and there is no way for it to: the report is only made when you complete it in the City’s or the Service’s own system, and only they issue a reference number. A photo you attach to a draft stays on your phone — you add it yourself on their form. The one exception is a photo you take for Ask Gary: that one was already sent to be described before it reached the draft (Privacy Policy §1.4), and what carries into the draft is the text, not the photo.

You are responsible for what you report. Do not file false reports. Reports go to a public body under that body’s own terms and privacy practices, not ours.

8. Your content

You keep ownership of what you write, photograph and save in Calgora. You give us only the permission we need to run the app for you: to store what you saved, to send an ask to the AI provider so it can be answered, and to read a photo you attach so Gary can describe it. We do not use your content to train any model, the AI provider does not use it to train its models, and we do not sell it or share it for advertising. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is kept and for how long.

You are responsible for having the right to send us anything you send us.

9. Availability, maintenance and support

We try to keep Calgora working, but we do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. Parts of it depend on services we do not control, and those services fail from time to time.

We alone — not Apple — are responsible for providing maintenance and support for Calgora. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services for it. You can reach us at help@appe-latte.ca, by telephone on +1 (825) 521-6591, at the postal address in section 17, or from inside the app at My → Help & Feedback → Suggest an Idea or Report a Problem (the sheet is titled “Tell the Developer”).

We may change, suspend or discontinue Calgora or any part of it. If we shut the service down we will give reasonable notice in the app. Because Apple holds the subscription, we cannot refund you ourselves — if a paid period would be cut short, tell us and we will support your refund request to Apple.

10. Warranty

Calgora is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy and quiet enjoyment.

In the event of any failure of Calgora to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price for the app to you (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to Calgora, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty will be our responsibility alone.

Some jurisdictions, including some in Canada, do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or of consumer rights. Where that is so, those exclusions do not apply to you and nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of your use of Calgora — including any reliance on City data, on Ask Gary, or on a reminder or alert that did not arrive.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims relating to Calgora is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for Calgora in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) CAD 100.

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

12. Claims about the app, and legal compliance

We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to Calgora or your possession and use of it, including: (a) product liability claims; (b) any claim that Calgora fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (c) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar legislation, including in connection with Calgora’s use of Apple’s frameworks.

We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of any third-party claim that Calgora or your possession and use of it infringes that third party’s intellectual property rights.

You must comply with all applicable laws in using Calgora, including any local rules about where and how it may be used. You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable third-party terms when using Calgora — including Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions and the terms and licences of the City and other public data sources described in §5.

13. Apple

You and we acknowledge that this agreement is concluded between you and us only, and not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Calgora or its contents. Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement, and upon your acceptance of it Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce it against you as a third-party beneficiary of it.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters we will tell you in the app before it takes effect and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Calgora after that means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and, if you subscribe, cancel through Apple.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and you and we submit to the courts of Alberta. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the place where you live.

16. General

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing something is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Calgora. You may not assign them; we may assign them to a successor to our business.
